Features of the walnut variety "Ideal"

Features of the walnut variety

The walnut is known to every inhabitant of the country. It is the largest member of the walnut family. It can grow up to 30 meters in height. Often it has a dense and voluminous crown. Under natural conditions, it is found in the territory of Central Asia and the Caucasus. Since attempts to acclimate this culture in those areas of Eurasia where the climate is especially harsh were in vain, the opening of a new variety was an excellent solution. Walnut "Ideal" has its own advantages, features of planting and cultivation, which we will discuss in the article.

Benefits of the variety

Everyone, of course, has an idea about the appearance of a walnut. It is a powerful deciduous tree with fairly well developed roots. Small, medium or large fruits grow on it, which, after drying and ripening, tend to crack. The shape of the nuts themselves directly depends on the variety. They are oval, and oval-oblong, and oblong-compressed from two sides, and round.

Experienced gardeners know that walnut seedlings of this species become capable of bearing fruit in the second year after planting. But these will be only trial volumes of harvests, since the real ones can actually be obtained for 4 - 5 years.

The variety is well suited for growing in central Russia. The peculiarities of the climate there suggest the presence of a hot summer with a minimum amount of precipitation in one year, and frosts in another. Trees of this beautiful species endure all the proposed weather conditions. Large fruits usually appear on them, located in brushes of 15 - 17 pieces. Each nut has a thin shell. The core in it makes up a maximum of 60% of the total mass and can be easily removed from the middle. Like every garden culture, the Ideal walnut has its own clear advantages, for which it is so loved by gardeners.

These include the early fruiting period (from 2 years old, subject to normal care), the ability to easily tolerate low temperatures in winter, and give a good harvest even during periods of drought and excessive heat. Mature trees tend to maintain bushiness, which allows them to be grown on small plots of land. Even if you cannot constantly care for your favorite crop, this nut can do with the minimum necessary conditions.

Landing scheme

Of course, you can harvest the fruits without creating special conditions for the nut. But in order to ensure a high degree of yield, it is recommended to adhere to certain rules.

For planting it, you should choose moist carbonate loamy soil. It is best not to plan for a wetland planting near which groundwater is located. In order to improve the structure of the soil, it is recommended to add a lot of manure in combination with ash. This should be done at the rate of 2 glasses of ash per bucket of manure.

It is necessary to dig a hole, the depth of which will be about 80 cm, and mix the soil obtained from it with top dressing. Remember that walnuts, in particular the Ideal variety, are very sensitive to possible transplantation from their usual place. It can adversely affect its growth and development. Correct planting is carried out with a distance between crops of at least 5 meters. If you plan to plant on a slope, be sure to leave a distance of 3.5 meters between the trees. This variety has a highly developed root system.

In the case of disembarkation near buildings, it can even cause the destruction of the foundation. The correct planting scheme involves placing the seedling at a depth of about 40 cm. In this case, the roots located on the side must be placed vertically, sprinkling with earth on top. It is better to bury the upper roots 6 - 7 cm.

After planting, it remains only to promote the normal growth of the culture. One of the points of competent care is to replace the earth around the tree at a distance of the diameter of its crown. It will need to be obtained, combined with top dressing and returned.

Do not fertilize too often and in large quantities. Otherwise, it is really possible to weaken the nut's ability to withstand winter cold.

Cultivation area

Judging by the reviews of experienced gardeners, such a walnut pleases with abundant harvests, regardless of the growing area, be it Russia, Ukraine or Belarus.

Statistics say that even in the Moscow region it is quite possible to get up to 120 kg of selected fruits from each tree, regardless of whether the summer was dry. This is due to the fact that the flowering period of the variety falls in March, when it is already quite warm in this region. Therefore, possible frosts cannot harm an adult culture. By September - October, the fruits have time to fully ripen. The owners of plots in the Chernozem region, who manage to grow more whimsical varieties of walnut, also choose Ideal for planting on their backyard territory.

Walnut grows well in those areas where the average annual temperature is above +10 degrees, and in the warmest month the air has time to warm up to a maximum of +25. As the experience of many gardeners shows, often in the middle lane, many nuts simply do not have time to ripen normally.

Trees of this variety tolerate frost well, do not die from drought, and are moderately resistant to pests and diseases. Fruiting occurs regularly. It is better to plant the plant in regions with minimal humidity, as its increase can lead to the appearance of brown tuberosity.

The weight of one kernel can reach 14 g. The middle of September is optimal for harvesting.

Before you start planting walnuts in your summer cottage, you should carefully read the varieties, and then choose the one that suits you best in size, climatic conditions and taste. Growing a walnut is time-consuming, and you will have to wait a little before trying the first fruits.

Walnut varieties

Medium vigorous, lateral fruiting, fruitful, large fruit (13-15 gr.) Mid-season variety. Nuts are of high quality, in peel and without peel. Suitable for medium to high density plantings with cupped and center guide systems.

Medium vigorous, late flowering and lateral fruiting, medium-, late-ripening variety, medium-large fruit (12-14 gr.). Good pollinator for CHANDLER.

FERNOR (France)

Medium vigorous, lateral fruiting, late flowering, mid-late ripening variety, high yield and high quality fruits, medium-large fruit (10-13 gr.).

Medium vigorous, apical fruiting, late flowering, late ripening variety. Regular fruiting, medium-large fruit (11-14 gr.), Excellent kernel quality, excellent autumn ripening of wood.

Medium vigorous, apical fruiting, with strong shoots, very productive, late into fruiting, mid-ripening variety, good fruit quality (14-15 gr.), But the ovary often falls off.

Medium vigorous, lateral fruiting, mid-season variety, large fruit (13-15 gr.), Good yield and quality of fruits (unfortunately, their valves are poorly closed, which limits trade in them as a whole).

LARA (France)

Medium vigorous, lateral fruiting, medium-early variety, high yield, large nut (11-14 gr.), The shutters are well closed, suitable for plantings with increased density.

MAYETTE (France)

Medium-tall variety, apical fruiting, medium-large fruit (10-13 gr.), Easy to extract kernel, mid-season variety.

Medium vigorous, apical fruiting, medium-large fruit (11-13 gr.), Late-ripening variety, low-yielding. Pollinator for FRANQUETTE

With strong shoots, apical fruiting, large fruit (10-12 gr.). An excellent pollinator.

Medium vigorous, lateral fruiting, very early flowering, mid-ripening, very large fruits (20-21 gr.).

Medium-tall variety, suitable for plantings with increased density, lateral fruiting, very productive medium-large fruit (14-15 gr.), Increased profitability, the kernel is easily removed

Sorrento (Italia)

Tall, apical fruiting, medium-yielding, medium-large fruit (10-12 grams), increased profitability and tasty.

MALIZIA (Italia)

Slightly less shoots than Sorrento, prone to proteandria, early fruiting, medium-large fruit (10-12 grams) and tasty.

Dwarf varieties

Planting low-growing walnut trees is best done in open soils with good lighting, keeping the distance between seedlings at least 3 m.If grown correctly, the first harvest can be done after three years.

The climate of the middle zone and the Krasnodar region is the most optimal for the following varieties of walnuts:

  1. Ivan Bagryany... The second name is Sadko. 100% hybrid undersized species with high yield, obtained by breeding the popular Ideal variety. It is characterized by intense fruiting and excellent commercial quality of the kernel of almost white color. The recommended planting pattern for seedlings is 5 × 5 m in a row. Fruits are arranged in clusters of 2 to 16 nuts per cluster. When ripe, the thin shell cracks. The grafted forms give the first harvest in 2 years, the seedlings bear fruit fully in the 4th or 5th year. Possesses high frost resistance - tolerates temperatures below -30 ° C, unpretentious to the soil. The yield reaches 30–40 kg per tree.
  2. Taisiya and Timofey - varieties "twins". The height of the tree can be stopped at the level of 3-4 m by regular pruning of branches, so the seedlings can be grown with a denser planting per hectare. The light straw kernel fills the fruit by 55%. The weight reaches 16–20 g. The oil content of the kernel is 69–71%, the quality is high. Late bud setting, flowering and ripening are characteristic. They are unpretentious in care and give large yields.
  3. Kocherzhenko... The Ukrainian breeder has developed a unique undersized, early-growing walnut. Early fruiting - from 2-3 years of planting, even one-year-olds can bloom. The ovary is large-fruited, the shell is thin. The height reaches 5 m, the yield is 40 kg, the average weight of the fruit is 8–12 g, the kernel is 55%.

Almost all dwarf crops show great tolerance to low temperatures, therefore they are ideal for medium climatic zones.

Features of the variety

Walnut seedlings Ivan Crimson for the second year are already bearing fruit. The trees of this variety are unpretentious and fruitful. From an adult tree, you can collect 20-30 kg.

The kernels are light sweet, - cracks the nut. Plant at least 3 meters in a row. Row spacing 6-7 m. 300-500 seedlings can be placed on a hectare. The tree grows up to 4 m.

Walnut fruits Ivan Crimson

The fruit is easy to pick. I harvest in the second half of August. It's still warm outside, I manage to dry them. It is a frost-resistant variety. Derived from the basic Ideal variety.
