THE AGRONOMIST ANSWERS ON HOW TO GROW AND CARE FOR PLANTS

WHAT CARE TO GIVE TO MY FICUS NATASCIA?

QUESTION FROM AURELIO

About 2 months ago I bought a FICUS NATASCIA about 35 cm high at the supermarket. During this period it has grown very well and has now reached 50 cm., All this despite the scorching heat of these days.

It is always positioned in the shade, in a small room next to the bathroom which is not very bright, but which apparently ensures the best possible conditions of humidity and temperature.

What kind of treatment should I reserve during the other seasons?

In particular, can winter (not excessively cold here) put you in crisis?

I haven't changed the earth yet. When should it be done?

For watering I adjust with about 50-60 ml. of water every evening. I also thought it appropriate to spray the leaves with fresh water about once every 4-5 days.

I used a fertilizer (FITO green plants) about once a week, diluted in water.

Thank you!

Aurelio

AGRONOM ANSWERS

Dearest Aurelio,

although the thermal and humidity conditions have allowed a good development of your ficus plant, despite the low light, I recommend that you move it to a brighter environment for the autumn-winter period, making sure that it is not exposed to currents air, in direct sunlight or near heat sources. For the same period I also advise you to reduce watering and fertilizing (it is sufficient to gradually reach one watering per week and one monthly fertilization in the winter period).

For the nebulisations, it is advisable to do them during the winter period only if there is a particularly hot microclimate in the house due to radiators and the like.

As for repotting, it is not necessary to do it every year but only when you see that the roots begin to be so massed that they are no longer contained in the pot. Only in this case it is advisable to transfer the plant into a pot a little larger than the previous one and in early spring.

For any further clarification, you know where to find me.
